Pelicans and the community

The Bay Area Pelicans Rugby Football Club (RFC) is the premiere men's rugby club in the Tampa/St. Pete area of Florida.  The club has over 80 active members participating in various capacities – whether as team members playing games each week; as Old Boys/Alumni playing competitive tournaments and participating in social events; or as supporters enjoying games, social events and volunteer activities.  In addition, there are hundreds of Pelican alumni living and working in the Bay Area and beyond.

The team is comprised of non-professional players and sanctioned by USA Rugby to compete in men's Division II.  Founded in 1977, the Pelicans have won the Florida Cup several times (the last in 2004), and competed in the USA Rugby national championships on many occasions.

Pelican players both past and present invest a tremendous amount of time, effort and money to fuel their passion for playing and developing rugby.  Off the field, the team makes major contributions to the future of rugby.  Youth rugby got its start in the area over the past two years; now there are four teams being led and coached by current and former Pelican players.  In addition to supporting rugby, the Pelicans are committed to community – volunteering at the Pedriatric Cancer Center, and other local events.  The Pelicans have two goals:  growing the rugby community in Tampa Bay and playing to win!
