2016 St. Pete Parks/Pelican Rugby--Summer Olympics

Hello Pelican Rugby members, staff & rugby supporters in general.

Pelican Rugby is excited to partner with St. Pete Parks department to host 2016 Olympics Touch Rugby.

Please open & read the attached spec info provided to the city, courtesy of Dave Hedges. PLEASE ALSO OPEN & READ the .pdf attachment which describes the touch rules in effect for this competition.  (Please do not be “that guy” & assume you know what it says –or ask me for a copy on the day you volunteered because you forgot…)

The participants will be 10- & 11-year-old, underprivileged boys and girls from ten of St. Pete’s Recreation Centers.  We will train the trainers (May 18m 7:30pm) & then at each rec center and, I hope(!!!), have three to five ruggers at each of the individual rec center training sessions (see below for dates & times).

At long last here is the schedule.  Nick Celli has agreed to pitch in, so please reply to Nick & I with which sessions you can cover.  If you can only cover part of the day on the June 16, that’s fine, just let us know now which part(s) of the day?

Attire for volunteers is just rugby gear.  If you can wear a full kit, that might be a nice touch for all the newbies –but please leave your beloved but old, torn or faded gear behind.

The goals is to expose and then inject the love-of-rugby virus into as many kids as we can throughout this process.   As a representative of the game, you can influence how dozens, even hundreds, of kids & adults “see” rugby.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions or express concerns?

Regards,

Kevin Murtaugh, President Pelican Rugby
